Fringes

Fringe Piece, Using Accessories:

The importance of this task was to understand how impacting a fringe can be on a hairstyle. A finge completely changes a look and the way the person can be portrayed. There are many different ways of creating fringes. For this task, I decided to braid hair across the forehead to create a fringe effect, heavily accessorising using flowers to create a larger impact.

Equipment:

·      Brush
·      Pintail comb
·      Grips
·      Flower accessories

Directions:

·      Section the front section of the hair away from the back.
·      Braid the Front section of the hair in a downward motion, across the forehead.
·      Braid the back section of the hair in a circular motion, and secure.
·      Secure the front braid into an appropriate potion and secure.
·      Position flowers in the braid.

I chose this particular design and accessories to reflect on how 18th century women would accessorise their hair. A lot of the time, women would use elaborate jewels, beading, feathers and stuffed animals. But they also sometimes used flowers to accessorise their hair. Flowers famously represent a feminine image, fresh and youthful life, and are also very attractive and colourful. Women would often style their hair to reflect their mood, so flowers may represent these in their emotion or to present a youthful image. The braiding is something that I feel wasn't particularly relevant to this period, but neither were fringes, as their hair was often off and a away from their face. I feel that this style is very contemporary for this era with the use of flowers and jewel detail, and I am very pleased with the outcome.
