High Fashion Mohawk

High Fashion Mohawk

Equipment:

·      Pintail comb
·      Grips
·      Hair ties
·      Finishing pins
·      Tongs
·      Hair Spray

Directions:

·      Using a pintail comb, section hair into 3 clean sections and secure with hair ties into ponytails. Follow the diagrams below:

1            1.     Top section:

2.     Middle section:

3           3.     Lower section:

·      In these sections, section the hair into approximately four more sections. Slightly backcomb the hair at the base and curl using tongs. Curl all the sections of the hair before touching them to allow the hair to cool set.

·      Using the same technique as creating a bun, curl the hair round in a loop of the desired direction and secure with a pin. Leave out any loose ends/curls to create a softer effect.

·      Keep checking the hair at all angles to make sure each side matches up.

·      Once the main structure of the hair has been obtained, gently separate the curls and bring them out to create a textured look. Fill in any gaps to hide hair ties and grips and secure with finishing pins. Manipulate the hair for a softer look.

·      To finish off the sides of the hair for a slick look, spray hair spray onto hand (not directly onto hair) and smooth it on. Bring the hair back with the comb.

Self Evaluation:

My model had very textured curly hair, which worked in my favour. This means that I didn’t need to backcomb her hair or use tongs. I used the curls to my best advantage and created a soft look. I decided not to finish the hair with hairspray as I thought this would add to the softness, but looking back on photos, I think the contrast of textures would have worked really well. If I were to create this look again, I would finish the sides of the sleek hair with a small bit of hairspray and comb into the mohawk. This would get rid of any loose or stray hairs and would make the sectioning less visible.
