Introduction

This semester I have decided to choose Wig Work and Postiche as I feel that this unit will be deeply interesting and offer many new skills. Last year my knowledge on hair was very minimal to none and I feel that I have so much more to learn. To my absolute delight, our brief, ‘Wig Wonderland’, is very broad and offers us the freedom to develop and progress in our chosen direction with use of wig work.

During this unit we will be taught the essential skills and techniques for hair styling and postiche application, including studio safety, health & hygiene. We will then be expected to thouroughly research into our projects and chose three outcomes for individual photoshoots to create images for an Avant-Garde magazine themed ‘Wig Wonderland’. During our research we will be expected to explore different cultures, historical context and contemporary uses.
